> …OSMOSE HAS BECOME AN INVALUABLE CONTACT FOR CAMBODIAN AND INTERNATIONAL MEDIAS

Over 30 teams of journalists have visited the project between 2000 and 2007. We present here a selection of English-language press articles, either about the project or produced through a close collaboration with Osmose.

Although media requests and coverage were very active in 2007, they originated exclusively from the French-speaking world (see French Media page if interested). Fortunately, an excellent English-language article, “The floating world of the Tonle Sap,” has recently been published in the magazine DestinAsian (May 2008 issue). In this attractively illustrated and well-researched article, Christopher Cox tackles the complex socio-environmental stakes facing the Tonle Sap Great Lake, one the most fascinating and productive ecosystems on earth. Although not directly focusing on the Osmose project, it generously quotes a founder of Osmose about environmental threats to the lake. Apart from some minor errors (e.g. figures on fisheries catch), the article provides largely accurate and interesting reading that offers insights into the broader context of the Osmose project. The Floating World
of The Tonle Sap

Lifeblood of the ancient Khmer empire, Cambodia’s Great Lake has for centuries nourished rice fields, wetlands, and a unique way of life.

But can this fragile ecosystem survive the environmental pressures of the modern age?

Two previous articles published in the US press are worth mentioning here. The June/July 2006 edition of National Wildlife magazine featured an article describing the successful waterbird conservation program in Prek Toal, with eye-catching photographs and enthusiastic text. This was author Michael Buckley’s and photographer Jock Montgomery’s second publication on the topic. They report about their kayak trip into the Prek Toal ‘bird sanctuary’ and the approach and success of the conservation project in CNN Traveller’s September/October 2005 issue. It is a commendable and accurate introduction with wonderful photos about the program implemented by Osmose’s partner the Wildlife Conservation Society.
